Wireman - Paperback

by Sue Stauffacher (Author)

A lone sculptor living in an abandoned factory, an art student who doesn't speak, shots ringing out late at night... When Andre moves to the city with his mom, he meets a mysterious cast of characters, all with something in common. But what? And what do they have to do with Andre, his mom, or his brother James, whose death is still a mystery? Wireman (Vol. 1-2) cultivates a love of reading in older at-risk readers, ages 10-17, by providing them with culturally relevant and engaging literature in the form of an appealing comic book appropriate for all reading levels. Wireman succeeds where most books fail because it was written by a skilled, published author with in-depth input from the readers she most wanted to reach. Wireman engages readers with a complex visual storyline, a familiar urban setting and a plot steeped in mystery. By the time kids have finished the book they know the 300 most common words in the English language-- 65% of all written English.
