When I Was Seven - Paperback

by Mary Ellen Bramwell (Author)

"Simply delightful! An intelligent view through a young boy's eyes, triumph and twists." -Maxy Awards

Childhood doesn't understand death-but it understands love.

Lucas has always been the kind of child who notices everything. The way the house goes quiet. The way adults look at each other when they think he's not watching. When his grandmother comes to live with his family, not with suitcases and warmth but in a hospital bed, he moves to the couch nearby so she will never wake up afraid and alone.

But when he discovers something hidden among her belongings, a small and forgotten thing she holds like it is the last piece of something real, Lucas realizes the woman he loves most in the world is carrying a secret she has kept for a lifetime.

And no one will believe her. Except him.

As Lucas sets out to uncover the truth, he finds himself in a race no seven-year-old should ever have to run. Because some truths do not ask for permission. They simply wait, quietly, for someone brave enough to finally listen. In a story this tender and heartbreaking, the mystery was never the hardest part. The hardest part is learning that some people spend a whole lifetime waiting to be found.

Does the truth arrive in time? Can what was lost truly ever be recovered?
