"Ivan Chow has a gift for celebrating architecture and the importance of drawing by hand through the most captivating original work. Through this case study of sketches from Istanbul, Chow demonstrates his virtuosity as a sketch artist in a collection of imagery unlike anything I can remember seeing - anywhere before. This small book is a beautiful work of art, cheerfully compelling and it belongs in everyone's home."

(JAMES P. CRAMER, founder, DesignIntelligence and Design Futures Council, Atlanta, Georgia)

"Sketches are not mere visual replicas of what has been observed. They fuse and convey the entire lived sensory experience, our being in the "flesh of the world", to quote Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Ivan Chow s sketches mediate a sense of life, especially through the slight intentional displacement of line and color. We sense the temperature, hear the sounds, and smell the odours of Istanbul in these sketches."
