There's Something Wrong With The Taj Mahal - Paperback

by Szeamus Chapman (Author)

'There's Something Wrong with the Taj Mahal.' Harris is independent and tough; an expert in historic construction; motivated to seek answers. As he winds up his latest investigation, he receives a startling message, 'There's Something Wrong with the Taj Mahal.'... and finds himself on the run; a suspect in a double murder. He identifies the real killers, this being the catalyst for a chase across India and the discovery of an on-going whitewash of an ancient cover-up. The characters he encounters are a rich mix; experts, dead experts, an Indian beauty, her Auntie and ordinary Indians - from the hard-pressed railway guards, porters, chefs, bullet-wallas, truck-drivers and guides of the Taj Mahal, to the sinister but at times inept agents of the mysterious Information Bureau. Harris's expertise becomes a threat to dark forces when he uncovers a collection of photographs from the 19th century, which bring uncertainty to the Taj Mahal's romantic story of an Emperor and his favourite wife. An untruth which has evolved over centuries and is now malevolent and divisive. A trap is set in its labyrinth of secret rooms, leading to a dangerous encounter between Harris and those committed to maintaining the falsehood. Its outcome will ensure, either the evidence is exposed or buried forever. But nothing in India is straightforward. The religious and tribal differences, two centuries of the British Raj, the changes in demographics and the ease with which information is disseminated worldwide; all play their part. Expect the unexpected as a shocking and cynical conclusion, reveals consequences far beyond the Taj Mahal and India. A modern adventure with a controversial theme, sprinkled with romance, intrigue and wit from a non-fiction author who knows his subject.
