The Zambesi Expedition - Hardcover

by David Livingstone (Author)

The Zambesi Expedition by David Livingstone is a firsthand account of his journey through the African continent in the mid-19th century. Livingstone was a Scottish explorer and missionary who is famous for his travels and discoveries in Africa, and this book chronicles his expedition along the Zambesi River in what is now Zambia and Zimbabwe.Livingstone's goal was to explore the river and surrounding areas, as well as to establish friendly relations with the local people and spread Christianity. The book covers his travels from the coast of Mozambique to the Victoria Falls, describing the landscapes, flora, and fauna he encountered along the way. Livingstone also recounts his interactions with the various African tribes he met, including their customs, beliefs, and languages.Throughout the book, Livingstone emphasizes his belief in the importance of trade and commerce for the development of Africa, as well as his opposition to the slave trade. He also describes the challenges he faced on the expedition, including illness, hostile tribes, and difficult terrain. The Zambesi Expedition is an important historical document that provides insight into the early exploration of Africa and the attitudes of European explorers towards the continent and its people. It is also a fascinating adventure story that captures the spirit of exploration and discovery. We arrived at Zumbo, at the mouth of the Loangwa, on the 1st of November. The water being scarcely up to the knee, our land party waded this river with ease. A buffalo was shot on an island opposite Pangola's, the ball lodging in the spleen. It was found to have been wounded in the same organ previously, for an iron bullet was imbedded in it, and the wound entirely healed. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
