The Philosophy of Natural Magic - Hardcover

by Henry Cornelius Agrippa (Author)

The Philosophy of Natural Magic is a classic work on the subject of occultism and esotericism, written by the renowned Renaissance philosopher and theologian, Henry Cornelius Agrippa. Originally published in 1531, the book explores the nature of magic and its relationship to the natural world, drawing on a wide range of sources including ancient Greek and Roman texts, medieval alchemy, and contemporary occult practices.Agrippa's approach to magic is deeply rooted in the idea that the universe is a unified whole, in which all things are interconnected and can be influenced through the power of the human will. He argues that magic is not a supernatural or otherworldly force, but rather a natural phenomenon that can be understood and harnessed through careful study and practice. The Philosophy of Natural Magic is divided into three main sections, each of which explores a different aspect of the subject. The first section focuses on the theoretical foundations of magic, including the principles of natural philosophy, the nature of the elements, and the concept of sympathy and antipathy. The second section delves into the practical aspects of magic, including the use of talismans, charms, and invocations, as well as the art of divination and the interpretation of dreams. The final section explores the moral and ethical implications of magic, including the dangers of misuse and the importance of using magic for the greater good.Throughout the book, Agrippa draws on a wide range of sources to support his arguments, including classical philosophers such as Aristotle and Plato, medieval alchemists such as Paracelsus and Albertus Magnus, and contemporary occultists such as Cornelius Agrippa and John Dee. The result is a comprehensive and highly influential work that continues to be studied and debated by scholars of magic and esotericism to this day.A complete work on Natural Magic, White Magic, Black Magic, Divination, Occult Binding, Sorceries, and their power; Unctions, Love Medicines and their Virtues; The Occult virtue of things which are in them only in their life time, and such as remain in them even after their death; The Occult or Magical Virtue of all things, etc. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
