The writing style is informal but informative, with a descriptive skill that evokes a sense of being there." - Dwight Kauppi"This compilation represents the first full year of those informative, insightful, and interesting writings.""Rising's work has broad appeal. Readers are treated to widely varied subject material as exemplified in the following column titles: "Hiker's Log," "Lady-bird Johnson," "Route 20," "Maple Leaves," "Charles Darwin," "Our Deer Problem," "Bluebird," and "Frog Songs." The author's approach to these weekly topics includes appreciation, comment, reflection, and scientific observation."- Christopher Hollister
