The Leadership Handbook for Women: A Woman's Guide to Developing Leadership Skills for Career Success, Fostering Equity in Workplace, and Empowering O - Paperback

by Mona Davis (Author)

"Women don't take charge. They take care."

"There aren't enough qualified women to be CEO."

"There can only be one queen bee."

"Interest in motherhood is a sign of noncommitment to work."

"Women are too emotional, and they crack under pressure."

It's bananas, isn't it that some of these stereotypes still exist? This is the 21st century!

How many more Women's Marches do we need for us to achieve true equality?

If you read nothing else on women in leadership today, I hope you scroll down and keep reading this...

In 2021, less than 10% of CEOs at Fortune 500 companies were women. Five years prior, female executives only made up 4.3% of the Fortune 500 CEO. The number is even strikingly lower for minority women. Even though statistics show that more women are obtaining higher degrees than men, with colleges and universities in the U.S. now enrolling roughly six women for every four men, women only earn 82 cents for every $1 men earn. Moreover, when it comes to salary negotiation, research shows that both men and women will judge a woman less favorably who asks for a higher starting salary than a man with the same credentials asking for the same salary.

And if you are thinking of starting a family, research shows that mothers were significantly less likely to be recommended for employment, and when they were, they were offered $11,000 less in starting compensation, on average, than childless women, while men are not penalized for having a family.

This may sound discouraging and depressing that there are unspoken rules women must navigate to be successful in the workplace.

If you are tired of being passed up for promotions and turned away from high leadership positions, you are not alone. So many women are fighting the same fight each day in all industries.

Hang in there. Help is at hand.
