The Jane Blackthorn Historical Mysteries - Paperback

by Melanie Jackson (Author)

Mystery thrived while the twenties roared.

The War is over. Alcohol is forbidden. Women have the vote. And Jane Blackthorn, young widow and reluctant subject of her family's matchmaking schemes, is trying to find her place in a changing world.

Unfortunately for Jane, danger has a habit of finding her first.

The Jane Blackthorn Historical Mysteries brings together four atmospheric Roaring Twenties mysteries featuring a clever, independent heroine, old secrets, dangerous settings, and crimes that refuse to stay buried.

In Death in a High Place, Jane escapes the holiday pressures of home by joining an old college ski-club reunion at a remote Canadian hunting lodge. But when she arrives at Beauvert Ski Lodge, she discovers that one of her former classmates has died in a suspicious accident. Trapped by a blizzard and surrounded by old friends who may be hiding deadly secrets, Jane must uncover the truth before the killer strikes again.

In Death in a Low Place, Jane travels to the fading silver town of Fire, Nevada, hoping to hide from her family while waiting for her wedding day. But her beloved Uncle Jack is in trouble. His mine is being plagued by strange accidents, his business is under pressure from a powerful Arizona conglomerate, and the miners blame the trouble on tommyknockers. Jane does not believe in supernatural sabotage, but proving the truth may be deadly.

In Death in Taigh Mhor, Jane receives a desperate letter from a college friend, a young heiress trapped in a dark and dangerous marriage. Rumors of malicious spirits and strange accidents surround the old house, but Jane suspects something far more human-and far more sinister. To save her friend, she must face the evil lurking inside Taigh Mhor before it claims another victim.

Also included is the short story Christmas in a Cold Place, in which Jane Blackthorn attempts to enjoy her first Christmas in merry olde England while dealing with a troublesome plum pudding thief.

From a snowbound Canadian lodge to a haunted Scottish house, from a struggling Nevada mining town to a Christmas mystery in England, Jane Blackthorn follows the clues wherever they lead-even when the truth is buried beneath superstition, family secrets, and murder.

The Jane Blackthorn Historical Mysteries is perfect for readers who enjoy historical cozy mysteries, 1920s settings, gothic atmosphere, clever amateur sleuths, and mysteries with just a touch of old-fashioned danger.
