by Jun Echevarria (Author), Bob Serrano (Author)

Engineers are often required to present technical concepts to non-engineers, many of whom are decision makers--a skill neither required nor taught in engineering school.

The Eloquent Engineer offers practical approaches to presentations that engineers and technical professionals will find easy to understand and adopt. It starts with practical advice on how to craft clear and simple messages, then goes on with methods to deliver these messages effectively. It also offers insights on adopting the right mindset, using pictures in a powerful way, practicing effectively, and even overcoming stage fright.

The book has a distinct engineering flavor. It was written by an engineer for engineers. It recognizes natural strengths while addressing common weaknesses of engineers when it comes to presenting. Many of the stories will resonate with technical professionals of all persuasions.

You will find this book an easy read. The messages are straightforward and the lessons simple. It uses everyday language and encourages the reader to do the same. The book models the use of rich imagery and is chockfull of real stories from the authors themselves.

This book will open your eyes to details and behaviors you never noticed before. It will teach you how to critique presentations--see clearly what works and what doesn't and will push you to keep getting better. You will learn that eloquence isn't just about the spoken word. It encompasses a whole lot more--what your audience hears, what they see, and how it all comes together.
