The Dwarf's Moon - Paperback

by Arnab Mitra (Author)

The Dwarf's Moon is an unflinching but compassionate portrayal of a man (in his late twenties to early thirties) who is struggling to raise himself up from his humble beginnings to find love and success-while still maintaining his morality-in the amoral brave new world of capitalism. Rahul Anthony Gomes has spent his life in abject poverty. Born into a tiny Roman Catholic community, his family ekes out a difficult existence in the ghettos of Calcutta. Repeatedly passed up for promotion and victimized at work on account of his background - his untouchable ancestors reportedly carried human excreta on their heads - Rahul's life is growing more unbearable by the day. To make matters worse, his relationships with his widowed mother and ambitious Hindu wife Anita are quickly reaching a breaking point. Matters come to a boil when Anita leaves him for an older, successful colleague. However, as India begins to shift from a prejudiced plutocracy to an open society that rewards ambition, Rahul finally sees a way to achieve what he's always lacked. Determined to wrest by merit what was denied to him by religious and caste prejudice, he sets out on a tireless quest to become successful. Yearning to capture the money and societal acceptance he's always dreamed of, Rahul must work harder than ever before if he's ever going to change his fate. The Dwarf's Moon is a new romantic drama set amid the backdrop of great social change. A story of personal ambition, aspirations, and achievement in the face of intense social prejudice, this touching drama will strike an emotional chord with readers everywhere. With its powerful story and visual nature, this fantastic novel is perfect for anyone who enjoys good fiction, and its themes of love, ambition, jealousy, and underdogs coming out on top are universal enough to capture the largest of audiences. Uniquely set against the cataclysmic shifts in modern India, The Dwarf's Moon is one of the first novels of its kind to encompass such great social change while still embracing an extraordinarily universal theme. Inspired by the social and economic changes that swept through India, author Arnab Mitra has felt he's had to finish this great story for over ten years.
