The Cowboy and the Chicken House: Love Behind Enemy Lines - Paperback

by Lee Levenson (Author)

In the dark days of World War II, survival behind enemy lines often depended on strangers willing to risk everything.

Second Lieutenant John "Jack" Dodds is a rising star among the famed P-51 Mustang fighter pilots of the Mighty Eighth Air Force. During a dangerous mission over occupied Belgium, his aircraft is crippled by German anti-aircraft fire, forcing him to crash-land deep within the Ardennes Forest. Injured, alone, and hunted by the Nazis, Jack's chances of survival seem hopeless.

Then help arrives from an unlikely source.

Rescued by a courageous network of Belgian and French resistance fighters operating from a safe house known as the Chicken House, Jack is drawn into a hidden world of secret missions, underground escape routes, and ordinary citizens performing extraordinary acts of bravery. Every day brings new dangers as resistance members risk imprisonment, torture, and execution to protect Allied airmen from capture.

Among them is Ellen Delacroix, a beautiful young Belgian resistance fighter whose strength, compassion, and determination capture Jack's heart. As war rages around them, Jack and Ellen discover a love powerful enough to withstand fear, separation, and the uncertainty of tomorrow. Together they must navigate betrayal, Nazi persecution, military operations, and the constant threat of discovery while holding onto hope for a future beyond the war.

Inspired by the real-life heroes of the Comet Line and the resistance movements of occupied Europe, The Cowboy and the Chicken House: Love Behind Enemy Lines blends thrilling aerial combat, authentic World War II history, and an unforgettable romance. From the skies above Europe to the forests and villages of occupied Belgium, this fast-paced historical novel honors the bravery of Allied aviators and the civilians who risked everything to save them.

Perfect for fans of World War II historical fiction, military aviation stories, resistance narratives, and epic wartime romance, this novel is a powerful tribute to courage, sacrifice, faith, and the enduring strength of love in humanity's darkest hour.
