So That Others May Serve ...: Lessons Learned and Earned from 20+ years in Search and Rescue - Paperback

by Mike McKenna (Author)

When disaster strikes, whether under the stars of a remote wilderness or amidst the chaos of an urban catastrophe, search and rescue (SAR) responders answer the call-not for fame, but for purpose. Their mission: do the most good for the most people, as swiftly and safely as possible.

In So That Others May Serve..., veteran SAR professional and instructor Mike McKenna distills more than two decades of field experience into an engaging, insightful guide for responders, leaders, and those driven to serve. Drawing from gripping real-life missions and hard-earned lessons, this book offers a front-row seat to the triumphs, challenges, and raw humanity of SAR operations.

Readers will discover:

• The art of effective leadership: Why seeing the "Big Picture" and balancing protocol with compassion matters.
• Team dynamics and resilience: Insights into the unspoken truths of SAR work, including managing ego, mitigating burnout, and fostering trust.
• Mission success strategies: The distinction between searching and finding, and why reliability is more vital than perfection.
• The emotional toll of service: Navigating trauma, balancing selflessness, and overcoming the hero mentality.

More than a manual, So That Others May Serve... is a heartfelt exploration of service-driven leadership and teamwork.
