Say It like Shakespeare: The Bard's Timeless Tips for Communication Success - Paperback

by Thomas Leech (Author)

From Tom Leech, author, speech coach, and conference speaker, comes a new book: SAY IT LIKE SHAKESPEARE: THE BARD'S TIMELESS TIPS FOR COMMUNICATION SUCCESS, 2nd Edition. This new edition of McGraw-Hill's original widely-praised book provides a tuneup for enhancing communications success in business and personal worlds. As the Bard of Avon put it 4+ centuries ago "No man is lord of anything 'til he communicate his parts to others." To succeed in business, communicating with colleagues, upper management, customers (real or potential), the general public and others along the way is a key factor in landing that job, doing it well., and getting that promotion. That may involve multiple modes of communication: interpersonal, written, speaking to groups (informal and high-stakes presentations), participating in meetings, and more recently via internet (e-mail, social media, webinars and more each day). "As a financial executive, now retired, I was constantly amazed at how the Bard's words applied so well to the business world. Tom's 2nd edition highlights many of these in a vivid and valuable manner. A must read." Alex Sandie, President-Founder of San Diego Shakespeare Society Here you'll learn from the Bard's memorable communicators, such as Henry V to his Band of Brothers, Marc Antony to his "Friends and Romans," Cleopatra when shooting the messenger, Othello advising his team to put brain in gear before mouth, (and even Falstaff to shape up his band of scoundrels). Pithy examples from current day (and past)executives, politicians, and personalities sharply demonstrate positive and negative techniques for ways to: - Improve sending skills by applying Hamlet's advice to speak the speech and Caesar's punchy reminder of non-verbal communication importance. - Polish often woeful listening-receiving skills (yes, really beware the Ides of March) to interact well during discussions, meetings, and question-and-answer sessions. - Compose clear and persuasive messages-content to convey key information and sell ideas. - Use the medium (think PowerPoint) to enhance, rather than impede communication by sound use of visual aids, props, and web-video modes. "Say It Like Shakespeare by Tom Leech is a must-read, must-practice guide for anyone whose job requires strong communication skills. Author Tom Leech is a master at teaching people how to use the right words to convey the right message in the right tone. I highly recommend this 2nd Edition if you're looking for a how-to guide to sharpen your communication skills." Tom Hinton, Author of "10,000 Days: The Rest of Your Life, the Best of Your Life!"
