Poems Of The Irish Revolutionary Brotherhood - Paperback

by Thomas MacDonagh (Author)

Poems Of The Irish Revolutionary Brotherhood gathers the voices that shaped a nation's conviction. A chorus of urgent verse. Thomas MacDonagh's collection reads as both document and lyric, a leading Irish poetry anthology that traces the emotional and political terrain of early 20th-century Ireland. This revolutionary poems collection presents lyric and declamatory modes side by side, where Irish independence poetry and political protest poems meet elegy, public address and intimate reflection - the work of Celtic nationalism literature expressed in measured lines. The language alternates between tenderness and command, giving poetry for history lovers immediate access to the sentiments that fuelled a movement without sacrificing craft. MacDonagh's diction is urgent yet measured, and recurring images anchor national feeling in domestic detail; sound and metre are used to mobilise sentiment as much as to beautify it. More than a historical verse anthology, these poems belong to the Irish literary renaissance and to the record of Easter Rising literature; they sit comfortably among Yeats contemporaries in ambition and tone. The collection records grief, resolve and the questions of nationhood, written with attention to metre and voice. Casual readers discover immediate, human lines; classic-literature collectors and scholars in academic Irish studies recognise a compact but consequential testimony to political expression in verse. Because the work functions as both art and document, it rewards repeated reading: what first sounds like a rallying line often unfolds into subtle formal design. Useful for classroom discussion or private reading, this volume bridges accessibility and scholarly interest. Collectors of Irish literature and students exploring Yeats contemporaries will find it a valuable snapshot of mood and method; lively aloud, measured for annotation, its lines stay with the reader. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike.
