A Comprehensive Patient Self-Care book on: Arthritis, Muscle Pain, Joint Pain, Wound Healing, Inflammation, Nutrition and Chronic Pain. You will learn how to lessen the Impact and/ or prevent: Alzheimer's disease, Fibromyalgia, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Depression, Diabetes, Fatigue, Obesity, Osteoarthritis, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.Inflammation is the body's response to injury. It works to heal wounds, but it can also play a role in some chronic diseases. The reason inflammation is so critical is that it has been found to be a player in almost every chronic disease, which affect approximately 133 million Americans, representing more than 40% of the total population of the United States. Many studies suggest that chronic inflammation could have a serious role in wide variety of age-related diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular and autoimmune diseases.Sixty two percent of Americans over 65 have more than one chronic condition and the prevalence of multiple chronic conditions is increasing, due to aging of populations and to increasing diabetes rates.Good nutritional status is essential for wound healing to take place. Ignoring nutritional status may compromise the patient's ability to heal and subsequently prolong the stages of wound healing. When you have a wound that's healing, think of food as medicine: You may need to eat more protein to help a wound heal. It's as if your body is running a race, all day long, trying so hard to recruit all of the necessary biochemical protein-based processes such as collagen formation, oxygen delivery, etc., that are needed in order to heal the wound.Antioxidants are substances that may protect your cells against the effects of free radicals - molecules produced when your body breaks down food or are exposed to tobacco smoke and radiation. Free radicals may play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases.Biomechanics combines the field of engineering mechanics with the fields of biology and physiology. Biomechanics applies mechanical principles to the human body in order to understand the mechanical influences on bone and joint health. Forces that load the joints are generated by muscles and transmitted by tendons. Bones must withstand these forces. Developments in the field of biomechanics have improved our understanding of normal and pathologic gait, mechanics of neuromuscular control, and mechanics of growth and form. This knowledge has contributed to the development of medical diagnostic and treatment procedures. It has provided the basis for the design and manufacture of medical implants and orthotic devices and has enhanced rehabilitation therapy practices. Remember: chronic pain can creep up on you. Even if it starts out as occasional and bothersome, frequent suffering can become serious and debilitating over time.Even with the many treatment options, patient self-care is vital to improving symptoms and daily function. In concert with medical treatment, healthy lifestyle behaviors can reduce pain, increase sleep quality and lessen fatigue. With proper treatment and self-care, you can get better and live a more normal life.Take control of the pain in your life.
