by Lisa Voisard (Author), Jeffrey K. Butt (Translator)

A Silver Medal Winner of California's 2025 Eureka Nonfiction Award!

Celebrate 150 essential foods in beautifully illustrated pages that are as vibrant and inspiring as a visit to a farmer's market.

There is room for everything on our big table: fruits and vegetables, pizza and pasta, chocolate and ice cream! White Raven Award-winning illustrator Lisa Voisard takes you on an appetizing tour of 150 foods--both beloved and surprising. Children will recognize the foods they love, and meet some new ones: carrot flowers and black garlic, white strawberries and banana ketchup. There are so many kinds of pasta, chips and chocolate. You'll learn what it takes to become a sushi master, why we call speeches "toasts," and about NASA's famous space potatoes.

Both adventurous and picky eaters will learn how to make good decisions for our bodies and for the planet. Readers can learn to reduce food waste and packaging, and be sensitive to those with food allergies. And for the daring young cook, the book includes surprising recipes: vegan parmesan, homemade ketchup and zero-waste pesto. Developing a balanced diet starts with learning to recognize key foods and understanding where they come from. Rather than stigmatizing certain foods, Our Big Table celebrates what people love to eat and inspires us to be creative with our choices. So let's welcome all the tastes of nature to our dinner table!
