There's one thing all colleges, large or small, agree on. Every college and university insists that their students must choose and fulfill the requirements of a major in order to earn a degree. If you think that means a college major is pretty important, you're right!

Not every college offers every major. To state the obvious, you can only take the courses that are offered by the college you attend. If there's a subject you want to study and it's not offered in the school you chose, you chose the wrong school. Know which majors you want offered before you make a very costly mistake!

Here's why you need this book. Most people can name a few well-known majors off the top of their head. Ten would be a lot. Twenty is remarkable. That's fine, except there are dozens and dozens, many you've never heard of, yet might find fascinating. You'll only know what's right for you if you learn what's out there.
You'll find reliable information about each of the150+ majors organized into these sections:

• Title - The name by which the major is commonly called.
• Description - A definition of the major and some insights about the academic or occupational field it comes from.
• Plan of Study - How colleges will likely want a student to proceed in order to complete the major. It may include special requirements of various kinds, such as internships, laboratory research, culminating projects, and more. Also, the plan of study may discuss what must be accomplished in the lower division, in order to move on to the more intense upper division courses.
• Expect to Take - This is a list of college course titles many colleges require students to take in this major.
• General Interest Areas - If you like these, you'd probably enjoy this major.
• Suggested High School Subjects - A list of high school courses that would help to prepare for success in this major.
• Some Career Possibilities - A list of careers that could eventually come from studying this major. It is important to note that many of the careers listed may not immediately lead to a listed career, but may require a graduate degree, certification, or other training prior to working in the field. Still, the major would most likely be a good start on the road to a promising career from the list.
• Some Related Majors - If you found this major intriguing, here you'll find a list of majors that you might want to look into, also in the book.
