Let's Make a Contract: Getting Your Teen Through High School and Beyond - Paperback

PEP - C: Preemptive Parenting by Contract - Creating Teen Successes

For young adolescents, transition from middle school to high school stirs up many emotions ranging from excitement and anticipation to fear and anxiety. Although some issues will dissipate quickly, at this stage in their development, teens tend to strive for individuality and identity, upsetting the apple cart in the way the family has related to each other until now. This is the time for parents to choose their battles wisely and foster loving, structural growth with their adolescent child.

In Let's Make a Contract: Getting Your Teen Through High School and Beyond, the author presents a new concept for helping manage family dynamics during this highly complex phase. It's called Preemptive Parenting by Contract (Pep-C) and, if followed closely, almost every issue teens face during their high school years will already have been discussed or at least be readily at hand.

The numerous contract templates in this book cover curfew, school attendance, grades, attire, cyberbullying, prom night, computer and cell phone use, borrowing the car, the college debate, and much more. Get ahead of the high school trends through preemptive parenting.

"This book is well-researched and packed with data but written in a way that any family can relate to. What makes it unique are the specific scripts that target problematic behaviors, with roles for both parent/guardian and teen, which hold everyone accountable." - Kaitlin Tully, PsyD

"Well-written and easy to follow, this book sets out step-by-step instructions for both teens and parents to exhibit accountability and responsibility for their actions. The contracts allow for open communication and for the setting of healthy boundaries within a family." - Elizabeth Vigil, MFTi
