Richard Griego is a native Nuevomexicano and retired Presidential Professor of Mathematics from the University of New Mexico. His academic field is probability theory, and he is recognized as one of the initiators of the theory of random evolutions. Dr. Griego has published in many journals, including "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences," "Transactions of the American Mathematical Society," and "Scientific American." He has also published "Conceptos de Probabilidad," Fondo de Cultura Económica, México. He has been a director of many science and other programs for enhancing the educational opportunities of underrepresented groups.
