Jury Duty - Paperback

by Daniel Storm (Author)

Jury Duty is a tale of cold-blooded retribution taken on behalf of a loved one, to a quantum measure. Eddie Veins does the unimaginable, as he systematically hunts down and executes an entire jury over a six year period. The extent of his revenge goes undetected by police, as Eddie is a creative assassin. His verdict for each is planned with precision and honed to a bone chilling art. Each jurist meets his/her fate in a way only Eddie sees as "Justice." When a journalist for a Chicago newspaper discovers the audacity and gruesome realities of Eddie's murderous exploits, he notifies the Chief of Detectives for the Chicago Police Department. The fact that a serial killer had taken revenge by taking out an entire jury sets off a thunderstorm of reaction in the Justice Department and among officials dedicated to upholding the American jurisprudence system. They plot to covertly cover up the enormity of Eddie's deeds, realizing the implications of the methodical extermination of an entire jury. They know that public knowledge of the brutal murder of a dozen people who served their civic duty would send chilling fear throughout the pool of citizens called for jury duty, and it could destroy the entire system due to fears of serving as a juror. The cunning killer sits on death row, debating his own options as the legal system struggles to deal with him.Storm's tale is woven of vibrant characters, all with their juxtaposed motives for retribution, including the grieving family wronged by a jury, prison officials who must impose death upon the avenging family member, and legal scholars seeking to protect their system while appalled at the serial annihilation of twelve of their own decision makers. Even the connecting thread of all events, the reporter, is torn between publishing the greatest story he ever unraveled, or suppressing the gruesome headlines for the sake of the system. This is not a plot easily mapped by the reader, with twists on the journey to dark justice to the very end. When it appears to the reader that the full story is revealed with all issues resolved, Mr. Storm has a chilling revelation. The reader will be stunned to find that they will need to revisit their hypothesis, as not all the facts were in for a decision on this plot! From the outset, this book captures the imagination and emotion of every reader as the parade of murdered jurists begins to pile up, and the efforts of the legal system to cover up those bizarre murders continues to the very end. Will Eddie be put to death? Will the serial murders cease? And is Lady Justice served in the End? A bone-chilling Read!
