How to Survive the Essex County Effect - Paperback

by Kaye Joans (Author)

Elizabeth Huntington is a lone wolf, driving with no regard for her own life and nowhere to really go after the loss of the one dream she ever wanted: a child of her own. Lost without any support from people she once considered family, friends, and allies, Elizabeth is aimless and lifeless when she finds a three-year-old on the side of an old abandoned highway. One look at those teary big brown eyes, one magical day of ice cream, boardwalks, arcade games, and music on the radio of her Pontiac Firebird, and Elizabeth Huntington is replaced with Vida Boheme. A mother and yet also a feral, magical adventurer to the one and only Essex County. She has a purpose and reason to live again; everything is perfect. Until the ugly and dangerous ghosts and skeletons of her past catch up to her, and Vida must make the most difficult decisions of her life. Does she stay and put Essex in danger? Fight her demons and risk losing her child, risking the lives of everyone she's ever been involved with? Or does she finally let Essex go to live the peaceful sedentary life he deserves? As old flames begin to die and new ones blaze, Vida knows for certain that nothing will ever be the same and that Essex will have to endure the harshest punishments that her Hellish past will raise.
