Goddess Aphasia: A Stroke Survivor and His Dual Muse - Paperback

by Shai Anbar (Author)

Goddess Aphasia is a hybrid of memoir and creative nonfiction that depicts the arduous journey of a stroke survivor diagnosed with aphasia, with a quirky twist: the personified character of Aphasia who, against all odds, aids in his recovery. This novella takes a fresh approach to the speech-language disorder by giving it a voice of its own.

"Goddess Aphasia is a lucid, earthy, and touching account of one man's struggle to build a meaningful life after suffering a stroke." -Donald A. Maxton, retired Editor of Publications, Continuum Health Partners

"An honest account of the profound changes that aphasia brings. Shai pulls no punches in describing his mental and spiritual recovery-which he prefers to call his 'discovery'. He encountered much pain and loss but with the help of his muse, he learned how to confront and commit to evolving. Shai's memoir is a creative and insightful window into one man's journey in learning to live well with aphasia." -Wendy Greenspan, MA, CCC-SLP, Temple University & Adler Aphasia Center

"A very interesting perspective from the innermost thoughts of an individual with aphasia...while they are recovering. I haven't met anyone who has expressed that to me before." -Charles Ellis Jr. PhD, Professor, University of Florida

"Reading this book has provided me with a deeper understanding of my patients and in turn, made me a better clinician." -Rosemary De Stephan, M.S, CCC-SLP, Montclair State University
