Get Quiet and Listen

By: Mary Swanson

Get Quiet and Listen is the memoir of a woman who answered a call to leave the twenty-first century and move deep into a forest in Pennsylvania, becoming a student of all Creation. Using entries from her journal she kept from 1999 to 2006, Mary Swanson gives readers an intimate look into how she became one with nature in a place she considers "a portal to Heaven." Her accounts of the delights and challenges of living in the wild include close encounters with wild animals, fishing adventures, and the challenges of life without electricity. Get Quiet and Listen is a one-of-a-kind memoir that serves as a memorable reminder of the importance of Creation and its beauty and the need to make an effort to enjoy the many blessings they provide.

About the Author

Mary Swanson was born in 1952 and lived her first seventeen years in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. She has worked in a variety of jobs, from exclusive department store cosmetics manager to a laborer in a factory. She thanks her son's father for providing income that enabled her to stay home with her son Daniel for twelve years, teaching him and sharing with him the many blessings of life on Earth. Now an adult, Daniel has increased those blessings by bringing wife Amanda, son Emerson, and daughter Daisy into her life. Mary shares many adventures with her husband Ron. They enjoy traveling and exploring new areas of the vast and beautiful state of Pennsylvania.

Mary considers four Hummel figurines and other memories of kindness from family and friends to be life's greatest trophies. Her childhood next-door neighbor took notice of her deep love of nature and gave her the "March Winds" Hummel figurine. She also gave Mary "Apple Tree Girl" because she would climb the neighborhood apple trees in search of those without bruises. Her lifetime friend Becky gave her "Good Friends," and her older sister Kathy, who still mothers her today, gave her "Sister."
