Geometry, Plane, Solid, And Spherical, In Six Books: And A Treatise On Algebraical Geometry (1830) - Hardcover

by Pierce Morton (Author), S. W. Waud (Author)

""Geometry, Plane, Solid, and Spherical, in Six Books: and a Treatise on Algebraical Geometry"" is a comprehensive textbook on geometry written by Pierce Morton and first published in 1830. The book is divided into six sections, each covering a different aspect of geometry. The first section deals with plane geometry, covering topics such as lines, angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, circles, and the properties of these shapes. The second section covers solid geometry, including the properties of three-dimensional shapes such as cubes, pyramids, and spheres. The third section of the book focuses on spherical geometry, which is the study of shapes on the surface of a sphere. This section covers topics such as great circles, small circles, and the properties of spherical triangles. The fourth section of the book is a treatise on algebraic geometry, which is the study of geometric objects using algebraic equations. This section covers topics such as curves and surfaces, conic sections, and the intersection of curves. The fifth and sixth sections of the book cover more advanced topics in geometry, including the properties of regular polygons, the construction of polygons and circles, and the measurement of angles and distances. Throughout the book, the author provides clear explanations of the concepts and provides numerous examples and exercises to help readers understand and apply the material. ""Geometry, Plane, Solid, and Spherical, in Six Books: and a Treatise on Algebraical Geometry"" is an essential resource for anyone studying geometry, from high school students to professional mathematicians. To Which Is Added, In An Appendix, The Theory Of Projection, So Far As It Is Auxiliary To Geometry. With An Account Of The Plane Sections Of The Cone And Cylinder, Which Certain General Properties Of The Conic Sections Are Demonstrated By Help Of The Foregoing Theory. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
