Data Privacy: Practical Handbook for Governance & Operations - Paperback

by Muneeb Imran Shaikh (Author), Tahir Latif (Author)

Privacy is fundamental to ensure human dignity and autonomy. It may be surprising for some of the Data Privacy experts or professionals to find out that the understanding of privacy is varied and, at times, significantly lower than in many sections of societies regardless of the socio-economic background, culture, religion or other social structures through which we define ourselves.

In addition, those who do understand this subject and are working to implement the Data Privacy function within the organizations often remain occupied with the thought of fulfilling the regulatory requirements without paying enough attention to the values that need to be upheld by the very articles of the Personal Data Protection laws.

Without a firm grasp on the moral and ethical underpinnings any attempt to build systems, policies, or laws around privacy may not yield desired outcomes.

This book is, therefore, written to build a requisite understanding of privacy. Reading it will help us to understand how our rights are linked to data in the modern world. Once the privacy of individuals is compromised, it opens the floodgates for our other rights as individuals to be compromised or denied.

What will you find in this book:

• Moral underpinnings of the Personal Data Protection Principles.
• How our data shapes our identity and the consequences around it.
• How to establish Data Privacy Governance in your organization.
• What Board of Directors must be looking vis-å-vis Privacy.
• Mandatory Competencies of a Data Protection Officer.
• Effective Operating Model for Privacy Governance and Operations.
• Guardrails of Trust - Privacy in Integrity Mechanisms.
• Essential Components of a Data Privacy Program.
• How to establish Privacy Functional Components.
