Calligraphy: The Golden Age And Its Modern Revival is a book published by the Portland Art Museum that explores the history and evolution of calligraphy from its golden age in the Islamic world to its modern revival in contemporary art. The book features stunning images of calligraphic works from the museum's collection, as well as essays by leading scholars and calligraphers that provide insights into the cultural, social, and artistic contexts of calligraphy. The book is divided into two parts: the first focuses on the golden age of calligraphy, which spanned from the 7th to the 16th century, and includes discussions of the development of calligraphic styles, the role of calligraphy in Islamic art and culture, and the transmission of calligraphic knowledge and skills. The second part of the book examines the modern revival of calligraphy, which began in the 20th century and has been characterized by a renewed interest in traditional calligraphic techniques, as well as experimentation with new materials and forms. The book also includes profiles of contemporary calligraphers and their work, as well as a glossary of calligraphic terms and techniques. Overall, Calligraphy: The Golden Age And Its Modern Revival is a comprehensive and beautifully illustrated guide to the history and practice of calligraphy, and is an essential resource for anyone interested in this timeless art form.An Exhibition Held At The Portland Art Museum, September 24 To November 4, 1958.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
