Bourke Parakeet Guide

The Bourke Parakeet, scientifically known as Neopsephotus bourkii, is a charming and relatively small parrot species native to the arid regions of Australia. These beautiful birds are often referred to as "Bourke's Parakeets" or simply "Bourkes." They belong to the family of parrots, which includes well-known members such as the Budgerigar and Cockatiel. Bourke Parakeets are celebrated for their soft pastel colors, which are a blend of muted pinks, blues, and grays, making them one of the most visually appealing parrot species. Their gentle appearance, sociable nature, and relatively quiet demeanor make them a popular choice for bird enthusiasts and beginners alike.
Bourke Parakeets are known for their sociable and peaceful disposition. They are generally less noisy compared to some other parrot species, which can be an important consideration for those living in close proximity to neighbors or in small living spaces. These birds are also relatively easy to care for and can make wonderful companions, especially for those new to avian ownership.
