What readers of 13 Pillars say about it:

"Told through the eyes of a young man on a spiritual quest within an unnamed country, the author presents ideas on the nature of personal enlightenment. Although there is a narrative involving the narrator's quest, challenges with his family, and general travails, the story is really just a background for thinking about self-examination in an authentic way."

-

"This book is a bold journey into the seat of one's soul. I think we can all relate to the struggles that go on when we try to find the elusive gems that lie beyond the sense of who we think we are, and Shayne's book does this in the most human and endearing way, laying all the emotions bare and uncovering what most of us are too afraid to face. An honest, enduring, great piece of work!"

"I have found '13 Pillars' offering a new angle I never experienced before. The concept of being careful not to transform message and teaching into objects deeply resonated with me as language can only be used as a pointer, while the self is only a belief of our own making. Valuable insights can be drawn from every 'pillar' and it was the very last pillar that argued the benefit of acquiring yet more knowledge and searching for answers from even more teachers versus letting it all go and surrender to the guru who is ultimately ourselves. I am using this book as a guide and reminder to keep it simple and let go."

Author Biography

Through intensive meditation on the nature of mind and reality, author Vic Shayne discovered what the sages of the East have long taught - that the self, the "I," is but a belief. Until this is uncovered, we cycle continually between the pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain. What lies behind the "I" is consciousness and the Absolute, devoid of suffering and the pettiness that impedes Truth. Vic Shayne is a meditator, teacher of self-inquiry and Transformational Therapist, and has been a writer for more than 40 years. He is a best-selling author on both amazon.com and the Wall Street Journal.
